Encounters 2017

DocPoint Encounters is a professional event for filmmakers and film students and it consists of six different parts. Free entry but signing up is mandatory.  There are 130 seats available for each session.


Part 1: Encounters: Documentary and the new forms of storytelling

Part 2: Encounters: Impact Seminar

Finnish documentary filmmakers, international impact producing experts and Finnish experts on marketing and communication speak about the possibilities of documentary film creating movement and change within societies and countries for the better together with organisations, foundations and companies.

Part 3: Encounters: The Art of Interview

Part 4: Encounters: Rough Cut

In the 12 For the Future Rough Cut workshop three documentary films in the rough cut phase will be presented to a panel that discusses the means of editing and developing the projects in question based on the emphasis requested by the filmmakers. The event is organised together with EDN – European Documentary Network.

Part 5: Encounters: In Defense of Reality – Reviewing Documentary Film

Neil Young, who is a freelance journalist, and a regular contributor to Hollywood Reporter and Sight & Sound will talk about the pitfalls and pleasures associated with the reviewing of documentary cinema. He will examine the particular approaches a writer may take when tackling non-fiction cinema, and will discuss the reluctance of some editors to commission reviews of documentary films.

Part 6: Encounters: Selling to a VOD platform by NORDISK PANORAMA TOWNHALL

How to sell your films to new platforms? VOD / iTunes aggregator Lars Henriksen from Under the Milky Way and a international sales agent discuss the current situation and their working procedures.

At the end of the discussion there is an open vote for a new Nordisk Panorama board member.
